Open the Messy Door

Hey friend,

Today’s show reminded me that God doesn’t just want the polished parts of our lives.

He wants access to the messy rooms too.

Here are a few moments that really stuck with me today.

Whenever people come over to our house…
there’s always that last-minute panic.

Toys everywhere.
Laundry everywhere.
Random clutter everywhere.

So what do we do?

Stuff it all into the back bedroom and shut the door.

But spiritually…
we do that with Jesus too.

We let Him into the clean parts.
The organized parts.
The impressive parts.

But the messy rooms?
The hurt?
The shame?
The addiction?
The fear?

We keep those doors shut.

And yet Jesus already knows what’s behind them.

And He still says:
“Let Me in.”

Brett started his senior year feeling lonely after all his friends graduated.

Instead of giving up…
he decided every morning he would stand at the school entrance holding the door open for students.

He’d hold encouraging signs too:
“You matter.”
“You’re someone’s reason to smile.”

Day after day.
All year long.

That’s a legacy people remember.

We talked today about how difficult it can feel when teachers or others don’t see your child the way you do.

That hit home for me.

As parents, it’s easy to tie our worth to our kids’ performance.

But every child is different.
Every story unfolds differently.

And sometimes God surprises you in beautiful ways later.

One of my favorite reminders today:

God already knows what you’re trying to say.

Even when the words come out awkward.
Even when you forget names.
Even when the prayer feels messy.

He knows your heart.

I got frustrated recently after our townhouse association told us to remove our kids’ swing from the yard.

My first reaction?
“Well then everybody else should lose THEIR stuff too.”

But my wife stopped me and said:
“I don’t want to hurt other people just because we were hurt.”

That convicted me.

Judgment usually creates more judgment.
Grace creates more grace.

Maybe today is the day you stop hiding the messy room from Jesus.

Not because He doesn’t already know it’s there.

But because He’s the only One who can truly clean it.
